Daniel Pelavin is an illustrator and typographic designer who makes his home and studio in New York City. Do you really want to read all of this (recently updated) nonsense? OK then, here goes... blah and blah and blah blah blah... Daniel Pelavin was born in Detroit, Michigan and began his training as an apprentice in local art studios. He has maintained a studio in New York City since 1979 and earned recognition nationally and abroad for his illustration and design which is best recognized by precisely drafted shapes, unique color palette and original typography. His collection of little red plastic things is considered by some to be one of the finest in the New York metropolitan areaA former instructor of lettering and design, Pelavin makes presentations to both students and professionals around the country encouraging them to avoid being a graphic designer if they have any other viable options. He has had a career-long association with the Graphic Artists Guild which he feels is the only graphic arts association which provides tangible benefits to its membership. When invited to judge competitions, he will not submit his own work to be among the entries.
He has earned recognition from the American Institute of Graphic Arts, Society of Old Illustrators, Graphis Posters, Print's Regional Design Annual, Communication Arts, Mead Paper Company, Print Casebooks, Society of Publication Designers, Type Directors Club, Hong Kong Designers Association, Applied Arts Quarterly and the Art Directors Clubs of Boston, New York, San Francisco and Washington DC among others.

Pelavin was designer for the club's 38th competition, chairman of the 42nd and will be getting sandwiches for the judges during the current competition.
Illustrated Stock Cuts for Art Directors, now in its third edition, is his extensive catalog of stock illustration which is used in 45 states, 5 Canadian Provinces a dozen foreign countries and several planets in nearby galaxies.
